More Zombies!!

 Hiya,  me again.

Just adding a few more finished King Zombie zombies to the done pile.

First up is a not so friendly k-9 and his handler.  The handler has a pretty horrific head shot he's dealing with.  You can see the puckered gun shot in his eye, but the backside of his head is...lets say, not healthy.

An officer takes a lunch break, while the flight paramedic wanders aimlessly.  I was just making all the zombies with white or yellow eyes, but adding pupils to the cop really made him look vicious.

Most of the First Responders in a group shot.  I'm betting they kinda wish they weren't the first responders to that last call.

I think I only have a couple more of this set to paint, but it's been really good to paint these up after so long of seeing them languish on a shelf.  I've had fun playing with different skin tones, and the uniforms were fun to paint as well.

Zombies!

What good is a modern urban fantasy with out tons of zombies?  Whether they are fast ones, slow ones, mutants, brain infected, rage virused, or just good old fashioned walking dead they are certainly a mainstay of the genre.

Here are some of the King Zombie figures I've been working on lately.  I've had them around for some time, but my attention span is low.

They are seriously over the top and cartoony, but as I've mentioned before, fun and quick to paint up.

These were all from the First Responders set.  The first is a paramedic who decided his patient would make a better meal.

I get a bit of a Freddie Mercury vibe from him.

Next up are some Firefighters.  Each miniature has an integrated and sculpted base, so I just painted it as whatever it was sculpted as. I kinda like the variety.

Don't ask where the dalmation went.

The two on the end I painted some time ago, and now I finally add a few more of the SWAT team.  I used a blue to highlight the ones in the middle, and I like that it doesn't wash out the blacks as much as the other two do, with their grey highlights.

This is why Zombies aren't asked do to the YMCA dance.

I've got just a few more from this set left to do.   Here's a parting shot of a Fire Chief survivor (made by Griffin) holding off his work mates.
Oscar Nunez and Big Jim Murtowski turned on Chief Wendall Rice once before.  The first time was when he was promoted to Chief.  He let that slide as jealousy.  Tonight they turned in a different way, and now the Chief was all done with second chances.

Still alive!

Heya!

Not so sure why I've been away from my beloved little hobby for so long.  But, life does seem to get in the way sometime.

Anyhow, I've not abandoned my project and slowly but surely I've been getting more interested in renewing it.

I have been painting some older Grenadier miniatures, just to get the rust off.

These aren't strictly MHI monsters, but still fit nicely into the genre.

First up is a Lovecraftian beasties called Tsuggathua.

The most erotic of demon poses.

He's a decent sized mini, and I envision him as some sort of bloated Bat Demon, looking for cultist to heap praise on him.  I've got a bunch of bats that I will eventually paint up to become his entourage.

Next is another Grenadier mini, called the "pit demon'.   Seems like he'd make a great antagonist to any group of Monster Hunters.  He's 'man sized' but with those claws and teeth, I'm sure he'll be more than a handful.

Rawr!

Onto the summoning gone bad, or good, if you are the evil type....

Do you have a moment to talk about my lord Cthulhu?

This one is actually two different models.  The summoning circle and the Protoplasm fellow.  I combined the two, and added some resin....er I mean Ectoplasm.   I'm sure it was a shock to the little cultist to have all those teeth come raging out.

Lastly is a WiP of a bunch of zombies I've had for a while.  They were made by a company called King Zombie.  I think they called the whole line Biohazard Miniatures.  This particular set was 'first responders'.  I've done a few of the SWAT team, but as you can see, there are quite a few more to work on.

They are cartoony, over the top, and strangely sculpted, but honestly they are fun to paint.  There can never be enough Zombies to fight:

Looks like an Unlock Character scene from a video game.

Hopefully I can keep the momentum moving forward and get some more painted.

You can always come find me on Facebook @  https://www.facebook.com/supervike

Until next time!

Still plugging away...

Hiya.

Been a busy early start to the year.  Ice storms, overtime at work, dog sitting, home improvements, and of course miniatures!

On the MHI project front.  I have just been slowly painting some side characters, just to keep me moving.  I've been assembling many of the miniatures I got from my Hasslefree haul, but other than some primer, most of those haven't seen paint yet.

These are zombies from a company called King Zombie.  I've had them for a while, just never got around to painting any.  They are kinda goofy looking, with bobblehead sized noggins, but they were still fun to paint.  These are 'First Responders'.  The female zombie is in 'mid-shotgunned blast' mode.

The leg chomping Zed was something from Frothers Unite's zombie line years ago.  He's gruesome enough to be a great target for the other two fellows.  These are team members from Team Haven.  Since they look so similar, these two are going to represent a pair of brothers on that team.  I think they were called the Hate Brothers, and they operate mostly in the Rocky Mountain area.   I'll have to double check on those names though.  The miniatures I used were Spectre minis, and I have to say I wasn't too impressed with the quality of the sculpts.  The anatomy is a bit wonky, and they just don't have the attention to detail I find in other premium models.  But, they will work as a couple of automatic rifle toting Hunters!

Chompy and the Bros.

Last up for this installment is another pretty cool character from the Monster Hunter International world.  Grant Jefferson is a incredibly rich, incredibly talented hunter that we meet in the series' opening novel.  He is arrogant, cocky, and at the time Julie Shacklefords boyfriend.  Owen Pitt hates him for all of those reasons.  Add to the fact that Jefferson basically left Pitt to die during the first big mission, there is serious tension between the two.
Jefferson, Grant Jefferson

But, the brilliant thing Corriea does with many of his characters is that he makes you like them, despite their flaws.  During the series, we see Jefferson leave the premier team on Monster Hunter International to move onto a Hollywood career.  He eventually comes back into the world, but this time with the Monster Control Bureau.  By the time the lastest novel has come around (Monster Hunter International: Nemesis) he's a downright goodguy again.

This representation of him is in that MCB guise.  Tactical battles, public confusion on the subject of monsters, and political manuevering seem to fit him as well as his tailored suits do.

I used a Hasslefree miniature for this called 'Codename: Alexander' but he's very obviously a Daniel Craig version of James Bond.  I can't get over what a talented sculpted that Hasslefree guy is (Kev White).

Anyhow, as with many of the bigger characters in the series, I'll be doing another version of Grant Jefferson, this time in tactical gear.

Until next time!!

Hunters, Monsters, and more.

In the world of MHI, there are plenty of other Hunter groups out there competing with MHI for bounty money.  Several of these have appeared throughout the novels such as Grim Berlin, the very proficient German team led by Klaus Lindamen.

Another team that shows up is Briarwood.  A Chicago based team that wants to compete with the big boys, but is severely out of their league.

The idea of all these teams throughout the world would work well for a skirmished base miniatures game.  I've been checking out differing rules systems, and I think Ganesha Games' Fear and Faith may fit the bill for a modern monster hunting game.  I'll discuss this more as I get the set and read through the rules.

Anyhow, the fun of that would be building my own teams to fight the ever growing hordes of Monsters.  I've had a few older miniatures, painted years ago, that fit nicely into this world.  I'm not sure if pics exist anywhere out there on the internet, so I'm going to put them back up here.  All the pics are clickable to make them bigger.

That Puff bounty is mine.

The design I painted on the back is a globe with a sword through it.
Dunno why I did, it just sounded bad ass.

My tattooed little Stubbs.  If you have keen eyes, you can spot the flat spot on the top of his head.  That's where I dropped him on the floor.  Curse words did indeed follow.

Vampire Killer

The top pics are a range of minis now in the Fenris catalog, and the stocky fella is an old Copplestone, I think.  All three work well in this setting, complete with the 'team logos' on the backs of the jackets.

Updating a few vampires I had shown WiP awhile back.  I'm not overly fond of these.  I was going to use them as Susan and Ray Shackleford, but now I think they'll be generic Vamps to cause Hunters fits.

Huge hands, (unlike our new President)

I'm also adding this Vampire to the group.  He'll work as a Master Vampire.  He's an old Grenadier Miniature, and holds up pretty well, even with today's standards.

I vant to suck your blood.
Earlier in the year, I participated in a Kickstarter held by Studio Miniatures.  They are most known for their very nice line up of Modern zombies (some that will show up here soonish)  Anyhow, some of the Kickstarter minis were 'Classic' monsters, and I couldn't pass up.  The set arrived just a few days before Halloween, and I'm just not a quick enough painter to have them done by then, but here's what I've got so far.
Frankie

He did the Mash.  He did the Monster Mash.

I snapped this before the 'liquid water' resin dried.  It should dry clear.  I wanted a 'swampy' look.

Are you my Mummy?

Wolfman doesn't get any paint love yet, just a quick blackline.

The funny thing is, although I snapped these guys up right away, I was wondering why they didn't look so much like the 'Classic Universal' miniatures.  Then I realized what they were really inspired by.

Monster Squad is a late 80's cult classic movie.  I haven't seen it in years, but I recall it being pretty good, in a cheesy sort of way.  Check it out if you get the chance.

Lastly, again speaking of zombies, here's a couple I've had for some time, but just didn't have any decent photos.  These were minis done by Fenris for the FrothersUnite Zombie line from several years ago.  Obviously heavily inspired by the  Left 4 Dead video game.
Zed Smash!

Tanks for the Memories.

I'll certainly be adding these to a cool skirmish game.  Can't wait to see how my Monster Hunters handle these abominations!!

Thanks for reading, see you soon.

Random Weird Stuff...

Hola Amigo's!

Couple of strangeness minis here.  First up, from Frothers UK, are a couple of Tank-like (Left 4 Dead) zombies.

They are mounted on bases from Fenris.

Next we have some Lovecraftian monstrosities.

The Son of Yog-Sothoth from Tengu Models

And a close-up of Reaper's Star Spawn (don't tell anyone, it's Cthulhu!)

Not sure why, but all of a sudden I'm craving Calamari.

All the minis were painted using a base color, followed by tons of washes.  I was really just experimenting with it, as it seems to work well for dead or pulpy skin.  Plus, it speeds up the process instead of using the base-shadow- highlight routine.  As I figure these are just 'gaming minis' I'm satisfied with the technique.

Spend most of the day yesterday organizing and cleaning my 'hobby room'.  It's amazing how much crap accumulates in a short while.  Now, if I could only figure out a way to organize my paints, I'd be in better shape.

Two updates in a week?

Hey! Got some more painting done, and put some finishing touches on a few that have been begging for attention.

Right to it!  All the pics are clickable, to give a better view!

This is a Grindhouse Games Mini, it's an evil dude called Hans.  He seems angry....

He'll be a nice addition to my Incursion games.

This guys' fluff has him as a deep sea diver, so I'll want to add some gloss varnish to make a 'wet' look, but damned if I could find any in my stash.  Ah well...  Maybe, he's good dry.

Next up is some 'Colonial Marines'.  I want to use them for both Space Hulk/Aliens type games, as well as the Marines from Halo, so I gave them a bit of a generic look.  These are from the very underated line from EM-4.  I wanted to keep the bases simple, so I've tried to hand paint a few panels on them, like the metal decking of a derelict ship.

Here are some Modern Day Marines from TAG.  Kind of a boring paintjob here as well.

Here is some scenic elements with a zombie pulling himself out of the ground.  Armorcast is the maker of the scenics, and the zed is from Frothers:  Both are a nice addition to my zombie games.

And the crawler himself:

And finally a Work In Progress....A few bloodied zeds.  The two in the back are Studio Miniatures, the back and to the left is a Hasslefree, the two gals up front are TENGU.  I plan on using all these in a zombie diorama I'm making, but want the minis removable for gaming.

It's good to start clearing these projects up, to make room for the next ones....

This just in!

A routine traffic report turns up something hideous.

Traffic copter reporter Skip Chandler indicated a snarl in the downtown traffic flow, following the snare, he's found a riot of sorts.

These are a bunch of my zombie minis set in the proper setting, an urban nightmare!

The cars are all 1/43 scale, from various sources, the 'scenery' is mostly from the World Works cardstock stuff.

zombie attack

Here's a group shot of the minis I've recently finished up.  They are all Griffin Minis.

group

Sorry about the quality of the pics.  I REALLY just don't get the photography thing, and to be honest, it's the most boring part for me.  I mean it's fun to post my minis and I want to be able to get feedback and such, but getting a good picture seems harder than having a fun time at the dentist...

Here's a few close up shots....This one was 'Shot through the Heart'....

streetwalker

Here's an old fella that got caught in his robe...

breakfast zed

I've got plenty of minis (and believe it or not, some aren't even zombies!) ready to paint, and I am really going to make a concerted effort to not only post more on the ol' blog, but also make a setup so my pictures turn out more like what the minis actually look like.

I'm also going to try and alternate the minis I paint.  For instance, zombies this week, maybe sci fi the next.  I've even flirted with the idea of Cowboy miniatures.

Anyhow, I hope someone out there is reading this.  If not, it's still a nice place to see some sort of progress in my hobby.

Until next time!

And more Fall Painting...

Just have really had the urge to paint lately, so I'm taking advantage of the feeling.  Nothing earth shattering, but I just feel these are solid paint jobs, and better yet, they shrink my unpainted pile-o-minis!!

Some have been 'almost done' for some time, but for every new mini I'm painting, I'm trying to finish up a partially painted one as well.

First up, Alpha Forge Horror line.  This ones a survivor farmer with a shovel, so I made a base to represent him hiding out in the cornfield!  (THE PICS ARE ARE CLICKABLE to make them bigger!)

The cornstalks are made from paperclips and some paper.

Here's a Sci Fi guy I decided to do.  This one is an Urban Mammoth mini...

Next, I wanted to try a 'monochrome' mini, using very limited colors.  I'm going for a 'they are standing in the moonlight' look here...I'm not sure if I achieved it, as it is rather boring.  If you look close, you'll notice the vampires eyes are red. (you may have to just imagine that....lol)..

Here is that SLITHER lady I was working on.  Not really happy with it at all, but I plodding through and finished it.  It's much too cartoony looking....I like the gore on the base.

Here's another Sci-Fi mini...This one was sculpted by Jim Bowen, and is the first in a whole group of these I have.  Kinda boring, but I like the 'moodiness'.

But, wait there is more!!

Spinespur puts out some bizarre minis, and this one is no execption...A pig mask wearing butcher dude...Freaky!

Last, but certainly not least, is my favorite from the bunch.  The finished APE squad member from the Incursion Game.  He is 'Slugger Murphy'.  Now with 'decal' attached!!

Hopefully these paint moods will continue!  I've got so much more stuff to go!
